Piano Style Keyboard lessons
I am really pleased with the progress your children made last year with most of them making the breakthrough of playing tunes with two hands together. I am planning on keeping the lessons going for the 30 more lessons between now and end of July 2014. Lessons will start again on Tuesday 24th September for five weeks. For more information please refer to the letter in the parents section of the site.
Individual and small group Instrumental lessons
I am writing to you as your child has had the opportunity to have free small group/individual instrumental lessons provided by Bird College at Upland Primary School. The government funding for free instrumental lessons unfortunately stopped over a year ago and the school has found it necessary to ask parents to contribute to the cost of existing small group/individual instrumental lessons. We ask parents to commit to paying for 30 lessons over the year. Parents can choose to pay for all 30 lessons in one payment at the beginning of the year or in three payments of ten lessons at the beginning of each term. The lessons will cost £3 per 20 min group lesson (with up to six children), £4 per 20 min group lesson (with up to 4 children) or £6 per 15 min individual lesson. For more information please refer to the letter in the parents section of the site.

Group Individual Lessons Brass/ Woodwind/ violin
I sent a letter home with your child about instrumental lessons on 10th September 2013. Lessons are no longer free and as we have to cover the costs of booking the Tutor If lessons are not paid for before Monday 23rd September 2013 your child’s Time will be allocated to another child on the waiting list. Please let myself or Mrs. Sengupta know as soon as possible if you are having problems paying or your child no longer wishes to have lessons in school. If you wish for your child to continue please send payment for the first 10 lessons to The office by Monday 23rd September. Please send your child with his/her instrument, music, folder, practice record and a pencil to write down their practice and make notes on their music. There is an “Instrumentpark” just inside the large Music Room where their instrument will be safe for the day and available for children to take to lessons. Because music lessons are no longer free and we have to book for the hours that the teachers so if your child does not attend his/her lesson we will still have to ask you to pay for their lessons. If you let the instrumental teacher or myself know more than a week in advance it may be possible to rearrange to make up the lesson at another time but we cannot guarantee this. Pupils will have weekly practice set by the teacher and will need to carry out a minimum of 5 x 15mins per week which I would kindly ask you to sign when your child has carried it out. (they can bring their sheet to me and get 5 team points and a sticker if they have managed this) There is now a free orchestra running in school on Monday Mornings 8:45am – 9:30am in the Large Music room which your child is welcome to attend so that they can have some fun applying the skills that they have learnt in their lessons.
Mini-Football Club Reception & KS1 Pupils
The mini-football club for Reception and KS1 will continue to take place on Fridays after school for Reception and KS1 children. Daniel Noel is a trained football coach who specialises in working with the lower years. This club is extremely successful loved by children and parents alike. This course will commence on Friday 24th January 2014 after school until 4.15 pm. The children will be collected from their classrooms (already changed) and taken to the hall where the activity takes place. The charge is £20.00 - £2.00 per session. The children will need to wear T shirt, shorts and plimsolls. This is a well-loved course which is constantly over-subscribed and for health and safety reasons there are only 30 available spaces. Therefore, on this occasion, we will be offering places to those children who have not had the opportunity to attend the full ten sessions previously first. Children who have already taken part can re-apply but again I must stress there is no guarantee of a new place. Miss Hemmings /Mrs Dyckhoff, run a cookery club for KS2 children. The cookery club is held on Wednesday, they run for 6 weeks and have approximately 12 children at a time. The dishes cooked vary immensely covering all tastes. We pride ourselves on our courageous approach to cooking and never shy away from the more difficult dishes. Our intentions are that all children, during their time at Upland get an opportunity to participate in the cookery club
